Our first impressions of Madagascar

Dear ones,

So this is my life now...

Nature, nature and nature again.

I am lying here today on the terrace of our house and feel inspired to share a little bit with you about our first impressions here in Madagascar.

Our landing in Tana in April 2022

First we landed in Tana (Antananarivo) and rented a house there, as all flights to Nosy Be were fully booked. Our arrival was already a dream at the airport. The people here meet YOU as you meet them. The friendlier YOU are (from the heart), the friendlier they are (from the heart ?). It's as if they have a scanner built in and will close themselves off at first...until you open up completely.

This even applies to the police. In Tana, we were welcomed at the airport as if they knew we were coming and as if they had been waiting for us for a long time. Of course, the four dogs were also an attraction and everyone wanted to help us make it as painless as possible for them. We were accompanied by two people from the airport staff. They were attracted by our energy, you could feel it clearly and they were sooo innocently curious...❤️❤️❤️

We were escorted to the PCR test, everything there is perfectly organised and the flow was not interrupted at any time. We had a written notice from the doctor that we were not allowed to be tested in the nose. (Meanwhile, there have been no Corona measures for a year already, Corona does not play a role in the awareness of the population). Within about 30-40 min we were already out of the airport with collecting luggage, collecting dogs and PCR test. Our driver was already waiting there. After about 10 seconds, we realised that we wouldn't fit into his 4x4 with dogs, boxes and 7 suitcases.

At my side from the beginning was a woman begging for money for her children. Her sister's husband was standing right next to us with his taxi, so we did her the favour of taking his taxi, even though it looked like it was about to fall apart...?

Anyway, our faith in life was rewarded. We had a wonderful and adventurous ride. We were given food and drink and taken to one of the biggest supermarkets I have ever set foot in. It's good to know that Tana has just about everything.

Arriving at our house was a dream.

Ani, the manager, and Max welcomed us warmly and in seconds we were at eye level. They laughed all the time and we got better service than in a luxury hotel.

Food ... and street food

The food is amazing! After being used to the very curry and spicy cuisine in Mauritius, we were more than surprised to experience how European and extremely healthy the Malagasy cuisine was. At first we thought, since we had rented a tourist villa in Tana, that Ani had simply adapted her cooking to the wishes of her often European guests... but far from it! We also got something similar in the restaurant and also here in Nosy Be our Love-Maid " Rose " conjures up the most amazing, delicious dishes for us every day and I have to admit that in Tana and at our home in Nosy Be I have eaten the most delicious salads I have ever tasted. Unbelievable...

Besides fish, a lot of fruit and vegetables are used in the preparation of the dishes, including many leaves, similar to spinach.

If you come here for a visit, take your time with the street food. It tastes fantastic and is generally well-tolerated... but it is not for the faint-hearted at first, until your immune system gets used to the new bacteria here. Unfortunately, Aron already catched it up in Tana and he had a bacterial inflammation in the stomach/intestinal tract accompanied by high fever. Here in Nosy Be, the doctor prescribed the right medicine so that the fever disappeared immediately, but until then it was really uncomfortable – especially because we had to fly here.

Eating in restaurants, on the other hand, is harmless.

Employees - Maid, Gardener, etc.

I know that the wound of colonialism is also unconsciously fermenting in our psyche and also in our cells. Without question, it (the Europeans) brought much suffering to Africa. Without question, there is something to make up for. And also the Malagasy People are still very much aware of their colonialist past with France... Let us allow ourselves. Let us allow ourselves to feel this wound and draw our consequences from it.

In the heart... not in the head!

Because not letting them work for us now, not hiring them now would be a punishment for them. This has already been shown to us very clearly in Mauritius. Because they are counting on us. As much as they are afraid of having to submit - the fear of remaining in poverty and stagnation is much greater. They desire to be part of our world. In their own special way. So let's connect these two worlds that only seem to exist separately.

I'll tell you a story about this....

You may be tempted to think about "the poor" when you drive past their simple wooden or mud hut. But poverty is in the eye of the beholder. It is a matter of awareness. In Europe we have accumulated all kinds of material goods, have cars, nice flats and a lot of fancy crap in our houses – but how easy was it to take away the joy of it all?

Corona has shown us how quickly it all becomes worthless if freedom is taken away from us.

Here, the power lies with the people.

The government has no chance if the people block it. And here it is actually just like that by law. Even without a constitution or something similar, it really IS just like that here. There is even an authority that is responsible for this, an authority from the people that works for the people here and is even above the decisions of the government and the president.

So we are becoming more and more aware of why we have chosen Madagascar as a country of the heart and of PARADISA. Freedom and solidarity are above everything here.

Back to the staff... You might think that you do everything better than the colonialists if you do your house and garden work yourself instead of letting the Malagasy people work for you here. But far from it... You might even create a gross imbalance in their relationship with us if you think and act like that.

Let's get back to our little story...

An investor built a hotel here in Nosy Be some time ago. Whatever you want to do here, you can only do it in harmony with the village community and the kings and chiefs. So there was an agreement at the beginning of the resort construction that 15 of the villagers would deliver the water every day, for the water consumption in the hotel. They loaded trucks that brought hundreds of jerry cans to the hotel every day. The workers were happy about the hotel construction because it allowed them to support and feed their families and villages. Now this hotel has been there for many years and the owner has still not built a well, because if he did, 15 men would be instantly out of work. And 15 families/villages without food at all levels.

So let us think, feel and act in us with PARADISA way and not strive to put on a halo, but feel what the country and the people here need.

Almost every one of us must have 100 € a month to spare, for example, to hire a maid who cooks, irons, cleans for you every day and likes to do everything you don't like to do.

This way you have your hands free to be completely absorbed in your vocation and purpose, and at the same time, through your free and focused work, you not only help those who are directly affected, but also the local people, who are incredibly happy about every little job ❤️.

Mind off – heart on and into the experience of "being happy". And we can learn so much from the people here.

Of course, we will also impart our knowledge to them and open up a space for them to learn other ways of generating financial abundance. But that can simply develop on its own then.

Freedom in Nosy Be

The ambience here is paradisiacal and at the same time very African. What in countries like Mauritius is more of a tourist attraction and is only lived and experienced here and there, is the "normal" here.

Villages in the red earth, women with baskets on their heads and children everywhere. On the streets , on their mothers' backs, in a hanging sling on their chest and naked life everywhere. They wash their clothes by the river and cook their food outside by the fire. It is already an adventure just to watch....

And believe me, they notice your looks. And also the energy behind it. The ego is sneaky and clever. It may fool you into thinking you are a good person when you look out of compassionate eyes... But actually you are just arrogant.

The veil of oblivion has settled over the eyes of your true self that does not let you see the beauty and grace of the moment. Yes, they may need many things, just as we do. THEY need it on the material level and WE seek and need it on the psychological and soul level.

The essence...we breathe freedom. We breathe nature.

We breathe the real and valuable and we may allow ourselves absolute abundance in the knowledge that many of our human brothers and sisters will benefit from it.

The more we have, the more we have to share... Just let this sentence work ?.

Among the practical things that are sure to interest you:

The weather is amazing, but certainly only suitable for people who love the sun. The ocean is clear and cleansing and refreshing, sometimes warm depending on where you dive in

But it is enchanting everywhere. Just paradise ..

We have fast internet, the fastest internet in Africa, the food is predestined for vegetarians and vegans, lots of fruit, lots of vegetables, even animal rights activists don't have to freak out here, because the animals that are eaten usually have a good life, at least before.

Our Sacred Space

I see myself as part of the ocean and the forest, so I have no problem living in it and expanding, just like the animals. I see it as my responsibility to ensure that PARADISA becomes a conscious and mindful Sacred Space, where everyone is interested in living in harmony with our nature and remembering who and what they really are.

Until now, I couldn't explain exactly why my heart beats so strongly for Madagascar... but it is becoming clearer by the minute.

With every encounter, with every touch, with every smile that comes my way and every glimpse of the breathtaking nature and the true beauty of the people here.

Take the journey to yourself and your human and spiritual roots and immerse yourself in this loving Sacred Space.
